About the Spanish Courses

Will I take exams during my Spanish course?

There are no official exams, but teachers can test you when it is felt necessary.

Will Escuela Delengua prepare me for any official exams?

Yes, we can prepare you for the D.E.L.E. (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) which is the only examination recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education

What type of D.E.LE. examination levels are there?

There are three levels of study: INITIAL for people who have mastered the basics of the Spanish language; INTERMEDIATE for people who have a good all round knowledge of Spanish; SUPERIOR is for fluent speakers.

What Spanish course levels do you offer?

For Intensive Spanish Courses we use the six level framework of language proficiency developed by the Council of European Languages: Basic User: A1 and A2 Independent User: B1 and B2 Proficient User: C1 and C2

What other types of Spanish courses do you offer?

We have a Spanish and Latin-American History and Art course, a Spanish and Latin-American Literature course, a Legal Spanish course, a Medical Spanish course, a Spanish for Tourism course, and a Spanish for Business course. These special Spanish courses consist of 2 daily classes.

What kind of certificate will I receive from Escuela Delengua?

At the end of each Spanish course all students receive a certificate that confirms the type of Spanish course completed, its duration, intensity and the level reached.

What is an Intensive course?

Intensive Spanish courses are 4 daily classes from Monday to Friday.

What happens if the minimum number of participants is not reached in one class?

The class will take place, but the length of the class will be reduced.

How will you know my level of Spanish?

The week before starting your Spanish language course in Granada you will have to complete the Spanish test on our website. On your first day here at Escuela Delengua you will have an informal conversation that will also help us assess your level.

How many students per class?

There are 3 to a maximum of 8 students per class.

How long is each class?

In all cases one class is 45 academic minutes.

How are Spanish classes organised?

Normally Intensive Spanish courses are in the morning: 10.00-10.45, 10.45-11.30, 12.00-12.45 and 12.45-13.30 h. Sometimes Intensive Spanish courses can also be held in the afternoon or evening.

Do I need to buy any Spanish textbooks for my Spanish course?

No, the teachers will provide all your course material. If you would like extra help, Spanish grammar books are available to borrow from our library.

Can I change my Spanish language level if I have been placed in a level that doesn't improve my knowledge?

Yes, you can, just speak to your teacher to discuss it.

Can I also have private Spanish lessons?

Yes, you can have 1 or 2 private daily classes in addition to your Intensive Spanish course (Intensive Plus5 or Plus10), or just choose any number of private Spanish classes.

About Arrival and Departure

Who should I contact if I have any problems the day of my arrival in Granada?

We will give you a contact phone number enclosed with your confirmation in case of late arrival or problems.

When can I move into the accommodation?

Normally students arrive in Granada on Sunday and leave on Saturday. If you need to arrive or leave on a different day, please contact us.

What do I have to do when I get to Granada?

We will give you all the necessary information, including the meeting point, together with the confirmation letter of your Spanish language course. We will give you also a mobile phone number that you can reach us on in case of problems.

Is there a pick up service from the airport?

Yes, there is a pick up service from both Granada airport and Malaga airport. A pick up service from other airports can be arranged as well. This service should be booked in advance.

Are there any buses from Granada airport to the city centre?

Buses leave the airport after the arrival of each flight. In the event of a delay, the bus will wait for the arrival of the delayed flight.

About the Accomodation

Who decides where people stay and with whom?

The school chooses where and with whom students live. We try to mix up the different nationalities.

What are the services provided when staying with a Spanish family?

You will stay in a bedroom and will share the house and eat together with the family.You will have a key to the house. The family will also do your laundry and clean for you once a week.

What are the facilities in the shared flats?

All apartments have fully equipped communal kitchens, bathrooms with hot water, sitting rooms, washing machines, and TVs. Many have a patio or balcony. Bedding is provided, but bath towels are not.

What are the different types of accommodation Escuela Delengua offers in Granada?

You can choose between a shared flat in the centre of Granada with other students, a Spanish host family or a hostel/hotel.

On average, what is the distance between the accommodation in Granada and Escuela Delengua?

The flats are in the centre of Granada, normally between 1 and 10 minutes walking distance from the language school. Spanish families may live up to 20 minutes walking distance away from the school.

If I am vegetarian or have special dietary requirements can I still book a room with a host family?

Yes, you can still stay with one of our Spanish families. They will be able to cook vegetarian food for you, or arrange special requirements for you. When you fill in the registration form, just let us know your dietary requirements.

If a friend wants to come with me or visit me can they share my room?

If you are coming with a friend we can organise accommodation in a double room for both of you. Please let us know when you both fill in your registration forms.

How many people stay in the student flats in Granada?

Between 2 to 5 people share each flat. Sometimes flats can be for more people.

How do you choose the host families in Granada?

We have known and worked with the same host families for a very long time. The families are experienced in hosting foreign students and they do their best to make your stay enjoyable.

Do we have to share bedrooms with other students?

You may choose either a double or single room.

Do I have to pay electricity, water and heating in addition to the price of the accomodation?

No, these expenses are included in the total price.

Can students change families if they do not like their host family?

If there is any problem we will help arrange accommodation with another family.

Can I combine two different types of accommodation during my stay in Granada?

Yes, it is possible, but it is better and easier if it is planned in advance.

Can I book accommodation without a Spanish course?

Yes, you can.

Are meals included in the price of the accomodation in Granada?

Half-board (breakfast and one meal) or full board is included in the price of accommodation with a Spanish family. In shared accommodation meals are not included but the accommodation is fully equipped for cooking.

About Escuela Delengua

Where is the school situated?

Escuela Delengua is situated in the very centre of Granada, just 200 metres from the Cathedral and 500 metres from the Alhambra.

When was Escuela Delengua founded?

The language school opened in 1997.

Yes, we have a Computer room, and free wireless connection for laptops.

Do you have audio-visual equipment?

Yes, we have TV, DVD and CD players.

Do you have any library where I can borrow Spanish books/films/CDs?

We have a library full of Spanish books, Spanish films and Spanish music. You can borrow from the library by leaving a small deposit that will be refunded upon their return.

About Students

Where are your students from?

Our students generally come from Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Japan and the USA.

What is the total capacity of Escuela Delengua?

At any one time, the capacity of the language school is about 50 students.

What is the average age of your students?

On average, our students are between 20 and 28 years old. Normally there are also younger and older students studying with us.

About Registration, Payment and Refunds

When do I have to pay the remaining Spanish course fees?

The remaining Spanish course fees have to be paid on the first day of class, in cash.

What happens in the case of cancellation?

All cancellations must be made in writing. If cancellations occur up to three weeks before the Spanish course starts we will charge a fee of 45 Euros. If a cancellation is made within the three weeks before the start of the Spanish course, your 90 euro deposit will not be reimbursed. No refunds will be given if you choose to leave before the end of the course. If you bring someone else to take your place, you will not have to pay any cancellation fees.

What happens if I change my dates or the length of my stay?

All changes made before the Spanish course starts can be done subject to availability (always try to make changes at least 1 week in advance). Once the Spanish course has started, please refer to our cancellation policy.

Is there a minimum age for registration on a Spanish course?

People aged 18 or over can register for Spanish courses. People who are 16 years old can register for Spanish courses with parental authorisation. In July we organize courses specifically for students between 13 and 17 years old.

How do I register for a Spanish course?

Just fill in the form online and send it by e-mail, fax or post to our office. At the same time you should send an advance payment of 90 euros.

How can I pay my advance payment of 90 euros

By bank transfer, credit card (see how to register for bank details and the link for credit card payments) or by postal order to our office in Granada.

About Starting Dates

When can I start my Spanish course in Granada?

How long are the Spanish courses in Granada?

You can enrol for Spanish courses from 1 week up to 12 months.

Can I extend my Spanish course after I have started lessons?

Yes, you can extend your Spanish course for as many weeks as you like.

About the Flamenco Courses

What type of equipment do I need for my flamenco dance class?

You need flamenco shoes, or at least wide-heeled shoes, and comfortable clothes.

What kind of Flamenco courses do you have?

We organise Flamenco Dance courses and Private Flamenco Guitar courses. Per week there are 8 Flamenco Dance classes and you can choose how many Flamenco Guitar classes you want.

Do I receive a certificate for my Flamenco course as well?

Yes, like normal Spanish courses, you will be given a certificate that confirms the type of course, duration, intensity and level attained.

Do I need a flamenco guitar to have lessons?

Yes, you do.

Other Questions

What should I do if I need a student visa to study Spanish courses in Spain?

The student is responsible for the all visa application processes, and for this they should contact their closest Spanish embassy. Escuela Delengua will provide a letter of confirmation to help with the application process. Delengua will send the letter after being paid at least 50% of the total price. For any other enquiries we will be glad to help you.

What happens if my Visa is denied after paying the 50%?

If the visa is denied students have to send the official letter of denial to the school at least 3 weeks prior to the start of their course in order to be refunded.
All money will be reimbursed minus administration costs (bank transfers, phone calls, faxes etc.). If we receive the cancellation within the 3 weeks prior to the start of the course 90 EUR will be deducted from the total refund due to administration costs.

Is Escuela Delengua closed on national holidays?

You won't have classes on national Bank Holidays. You can check the national holidays under 'Prices & Dates'.

Do most places in Spain accept credit cards?

Yes, you can pay with a credit card in most big stores and restaurants.

Do I need medical insurance?

We recommend that you apply for an insurance policy before your trip. Insurance is not included in the Spanish course price. European Union citizens are advised to bring with them their European Health Insurance Card which provides free public health assistance.

Do I need a Student Visa for to study Spanish courses in Spain?

If you come from a country within the European Union, then you don't need a Student Visa. For other countries, please contact the Spanish embassy in your own country.

About the Activities

What kind of activities does Escuela Delengua offer?

Parties and meals with an Andalusian/Spanish flavour, guided visits to monuments and popular places of interest (the Alhambra and Generalife, Granada Cathedral, the Cartuja, the Royal Chapel, Sacromonte Abbey, the Albayzín...), tapas tours, Flamenco nights, Spanish and Latin-American films, trips to Seville, Cordoba, Ronda, the Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarras.

Is the cost of the activities included in the price of Spanish courses?

Entrance fees and trips are not included in the Spanish course fees, but the organisation of all activities is free.

Does a teacher accompany us during activities?

Yes, there is always a tutor guiding students and they can provide all the information you need to know about the particular activity.

Do you organise activities everyday?

We organize at least five activities per week.
